Product Consultation for Custom Garden Trains

Before we start building a custom garden train or locomotive, we begin with a detailed product consultation. The customer first provides us with their ideas — this includes reference photos, sketches, dimensions, and preferred color schemes.

Our team then carefully reviews all the materials and evaluates how the train could be built, based on the customer’s vision. After our analysis, we provide feedback and technical suggestions to move the project forward.

At this stage, we define the technical specifications, such as motor power, battery type, control electronics, and other important components. These details are essential for a successful design phase, where we incorporate everything the customer wants directly into the final 3D model and technical plans.

We always aim to recommend the best solutions based on how the locomotive or vehicle will be used — whether for private garden railways, club layouts, or event exhibitions. Throughout the process, we work closely with the client to ensure the final product is exactly what they envisioned.

3D Design and Engineering

In this phase, we create a complete 3D model of the garden locomotive or wagon. The design includes every detail: materials, bolts and fasteners, manufacturing techniques, welding points, lighting, electronics, suspension, and more.

The entire construction is based on the information and requirements defined during the Product Consultation stage. Depending on the size and complexity of the vehicle, the 3D design process can take several weeks or even months.

If any major changes are required during this stage, we discuss them directly with the client before continuing. Once the 3D design is finalized, the client must give final approval before we proceed to production.

Bogie Production and Drive System Assembly

In this stage, we begin manufacturing the bogies — if the locomotive or wagon is designed to have them. If the vehicle uses a fixed frame (without bogies), we instead build the complete drive system directly into the main chassis. This includes wheels, axles, motors, and all other drivetrain components.

Whether the vehicle uses bogies or not, we fully assemble everything needed to make it drivable. The wheelsets, motor mounts, gearboxes, and other mechanical parts are all custom-made and installed according to the design specifications.

Once the bogies or drive units are completed, we perform thorough testing to ensure smooth operation and full functionality. The finished assemblies are then presented to the client for review and approval before continuing to the next phase.

Main Body Production

In this phase, we manufacture the main body or chassis of the locomotive or vehicle. This forms the sturdy structural base designed to accommodate all essential components later, such as batteries, electronics, speakers, and wiring.

The main body is built to securely hold the bogies or fixed frame assemblies underneath. For smaller vehicles, this process is often combined with the assembly of the drive system and bogies to create a compact, fully integrated unit.

At this stage, the focus is on constructing a strong, precise base frame that will support all mechanical and electrical parts needed for the vehicle to operate once fully assembled.

Electronics Assembly

In this phase, we install all essential components needed to make the vehicle fully operational. This includes batteries, electronics, sound systems, wiring, and control units.

The drive units or bogies are integrated with the main body, and everything is carefully connected and arranged so that the vehicle can run smoothly without the upper housing.

This stage ensures that the locomotive or wagon is fully functional — ready for testing and final adjustments before adding the exterior bodywork.

Upper Housing and Finishing

In this phase, the locomotive receives its complete exterior appearance — including colors, decals, and all the fine details it needs to look authentic and polished.

This part of the process often takes the longest time due to the complexity of the details, multiple paint layers, and the necessary drying times. As a result, finishing can sometimes take several months.

Once the upper housing is completed, the locomotive proceeds to final testing. After testing, it undergoes a thorough inspection and any necessary improvements are made.

Our locomotives consistently perform exceptionally well on their first runs without requiring major repairs. Occasionally, we make minor adjustments to further enhance the final product.

Vehicle Delivery and Handover

At this stage, we deliver the completed vehicle to the customer. We especially enjoy meeting the client in person for the handover, as it allows us to easily demonstrate and explain how everything works.

Together, we test and try out all the functions to ensure the vehicle operates perfectly.

If the customer prefers, we can also arrange safe shipping and delivery to their location.
